I found I could say things with color and shapes
that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for.
Georgia O'Keeffe

As a child, I was moved by the bare-branched lines of trees against a white winter sky. I loved making rubbings of old coins. I imbibed late-spring images of violet petals against palpably green leaves. In the long days of summer I read mysteries…

Nature and cycles, line and texture, symbol and mystery are the raw materials of my work.

I’m searching to say those things Georgia talks about. Sometimes an abstract play of line and color and texture seems to translate the messages best. When my work is representational, what I’m whispering is: This face, this leaf, these rocks—the whole universe is right here!
